Kids Taekwondo in Southport — Confidence, Focus & Fun
Parents across Southport choose Taekwondo for their children because it does something few other activities manage: it builds confidence, focus and self-discipline while children are having genuine fun. From age four, our kids' Taekwondo classes give children a safe, structured, friendly place to grow — physically and as people. And every step of the way they have a clear goal to aim for: their next belt.

Earn Children's University credits while they train
Here is something parents love. Our club is a recognised UK Children's University learning destination, which means the children who train with us earn Children's University credits — Passport-to-Learning hours — for the time they spend in class. Those hours build up towards a Children's University graduation, giving your child official recognition for the dedication, learning and effort they put into their Taekwondo. It is a wonderful way to show children that the work they do outside school counts too — turning every lesson into a step towards a real, celebrated achievement.
The benefits for children
Taekwondo develops the whole child. Among the benefits parents tell us about most:
- Confidence — earning belts and mastering new skills gives shy children real, visible self-belief.
- Focus and concentration — following instructions and learning patterns sharpens attention, which often shows up at school.
- Discipline and respect — bowing, listening and courtesy are built into every class.
- Fitness and coordination — kicking, balancing and moving builds strong, capable bodies.
- Resilience — children learn to keep going when something is hard, and to handle setbacks.
- Anti-bullying awareness — confidence, body language and basic self-defence awareness help children feel safer.
- A screen-free activity and new friendships — real-world fun with a great group of peers.
Age groups
Tots / Little Dragons (4–6). Short, game-based sessions focused on listening, coordination and confidence — the building blocks of Taekwondo, delivered in a way little ones love.
Juniors (7–12). Proper technique, first patterns and steady belt progress, all wrapped up with plenty of energy-burning fun and a strong sense of teamwork and respect.
Teens. A great way for older children to stay active, build a positive social circle and keep progressing as the gradings get more demanding.
What happens in a kids' class
Classes are structured but never stiff. For the youngest children, learning happens through games that secretly teach kicks, blocks and listening skills. As they grow, children move on to proper technique, their first patterns and controlled drills. Throughout, the next belt provides a clear, motivating goal — children always know what they are working towards, which keeps them engaged week after week. Our full timetable shows when each group trains.
Safety and safeguarding
Your child's safety comes first. Our instructors are [CONFIRM] DBS-checked and first-aid trained, classes are run in a safe, controlled environment, and parents are welcome to stay and watch. We will always confirm our full safeguarding arrangements with you — please just ask.
Belts keep children motivated
The belt system is one of the biggest reasons Taekwondo works so well for children. Each grading and belt is an achievable milestone that teaches goal-setting and rewards perseverance. Because our classes run year-round, including school holidays, there are no long breaks to stall that momentum.
Parent questions
"Is my child too young to start? Do they need a uniform for the first class?" We hear these all the time — and the answers are reassuring. You will find them, and many more, on our FAQ page. New to martial arts yourself? Our guide to what Taekwondo is explains the art in plain English.
